The Rocky Mountain Pacific - Fn3 - NCE DCC
First, what is Fn3 scale? Part of the commonly referred to "G Scale" garden scale, When you scale your layout in a 1:20.3 ratio, the 45 mm track gauge of standard garden track scales to 3 feet. NMRA standard S-1.2 refers to this as Fn3.
What is the Rocky Mountain Pacific? This is a NMRA registered pike name for Bruce's fictional southwest Colorado narrow gauge pike. The RMP is a struggling little road with big ambitions: to run from the mineral rich Rockies to the Pacific Ocean. Meanwhile, it is struggling just to pay the bills, like most of its brethren. The RMP reporting marks also refer to "Real Money Pit!"
The Santa Maria Valley Railway - HO - NCE DCC
Having spent high school and college days on the central coast of California, Bruce latched onto the SMVRR as an ideal railroad to model. In its heyday, the SMVRR had less than 30 miles of track. With the SP interchange at Guadalupe, there was lots of freight switching action, including: beets for a sugar mill, livestock, petroleum refining, many vegetable and fruit packing sheds and an ice house, as well as the usual industrial traffic.
Much of the history is captured by the Santa Maria Valley Railway Historical Museum on their web site.
Bruce is working on a model based on the early 1960s, when light Mikado #21 shared the rails with GE 70 ton locos and the very first GE U6B ever built.
